The Arc of Alameda County: For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Please achieve with us.

California's Budget Woes Means Your Support Is Critical

The State of California reimburses The Arc of Alameda County for the services it provides to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  The challenge is: the reimbursement rate doesn’t cover all of our costs.

For one thing, that reimbursement rate has been frozen since 1998 – which has meant getting by on the same amount of revenue each year despite increasing health insurance rates, energy costs, employee raises, facilities costs, etc.

For another, in early 2009, the State actually cut the reimbursement rate by 3%.  Then lawmakers passed a budget that called for an additional 7% cut in July of 2009. Those cuts continued into the 2010-11 State Budget (along with 4 additional non-paid "holidays") and into the current 2011-12 budget. We anticipate further cuts in 2011-12 because actual state reventues are not anywhere near what legislators thought they'd be and the so-called budget "trigger" will likely be pulled. We find ourselves in the position of trying to provide new and innovative services to the people we serve in 2011-12 with far less money than we had in 1998.

Our employees and especially the people we serve deserve better.  We need your help.
